Instead, they send Bob Schroeder, an aspiring actor who agrees to perform the impersonation.
Happily, he is extremely convincing in the role and Sarah's parents are enraptured. Soon, even Sarah falls for Bob.

The story involves the production of a musical version of William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew and the conflict on and off-stage between Fred Graham, the show's director, producer, and star, and his leading lady, his ex-wife Lilli Vanessi. A secondary romance concerns Lois Lane, the actress playing Bianca, and her gambler boyfriend, Bill, who runs afoul with some gangsters.
Directed by Sharon Propst. Open auditions for all parts. Please bring 32 measures of a prepared BROADWAY song to perform for your vocal audition. An accompanist will be provided. THE BOOK OF MORMON will be coming to Kansas City to hold auditions Saturday May 3rd and Sunday May 4th by appointment only. We are looking to build our files for future replacements for all three companies (Broadway, 1st National Tour, Jumamosi Tour) for the roles of ARNOLD CUNNINGHAM, KEVIN PRICE, NABALUNGI and ELDER MCKINLEY etc. (See role descriptions below.)

Dweeby, dorky, nerdy, overweight, or all four combined. Arnold is a pathological liar but his heart is in the right place. He is a total screw-up but not for lack of trying, he always wants to do the right thing. Must be fantastic comedic actor who sings well. Tenor. We are also particularly interested in comics who sing.
KEVIN PRICE (Early 20's-Late 20's to play 18): Caucasian. All-American. Very handsome. Head of the class, always optimistic. Heroic Mormon. Must be a great comedic actor and a fantastic pop-rock high tenor to a B. Should be at least 5'10 or taller.
NABALUNGI (18- Late 20's to play 20): Black African. Pretty. Takes the hardships of her village very seriously and wants to help her people find a better life. Must have great comic timing. Strong Alto. Belt to an E.
ELDER MCKINLEY (early 20's to late 20's to play 18): Caucasian. District leader of the Mormon missionaries in Uganda. All- American, wide-eyed and hopeful. Often struggles to cover his flamboyant tendencies and adhere to his Mormon morals. Must be a fantastic comedic actor and great singer. High Baritone who can pop out high Bb's for comedic effect.
MAFALA HATIMBI (40's): Black African. Father of Nabalungi. Has come to accept the hardships in the village where they live but is a discerning community leader and tries to bring joy to their lives. Must be a great comedic actor and singer. Also interested in actors who sing.
PRICE'S DAD/MISSION PRESIDENT/VARIOUS ROLES (40's): Caucasian. All-American good looks and physique. Plays several parts from the perfect picture of a head of a Mormon household, to the stern missionary president, to Joseph Smith, so must have the ability to be transformative. Will he solve the mystery and save his failing reputation? And, who is Wendy Watson?

THE STORY: "Nick is a single, Italian-American guy from New Jersey. His parents retired and moved to Florida. That doesn't mean his family isn't still in Jersey. In fact, he sees both sets of his grandparents every Sunday for dinner. This is routine until he has to tell them that he's been offered a dream job. The job he's been waiting for—marketing executive—would take him away from his beloved, but annoying, grandparents. He tells them. The news doesn't sit so well. Thus begins a series of schemes to keep Nick around. How could he betray his family's love to move to Seattle, for a job, wonder his grandparents? Well, Frank, Aida, Nunzio and Emma do their level best, and that includes bringing to dinner the lovely—and single—Caitlin O'Hare as bait…we won't give the ending away here." - DPS

SYNOPSIS: A true theatrical event, this
legendary masterpiece is considered by many to be the
greatest musical ever created. In FOLLIES the time is 1971,
and theatrical impresario Dimitri Weissmann hosts a reunion of
ex-Follies performers in his crumbling theatre, setting the

the reminiscing, two middle-aged couples confront some

Strong comedic timing and physical comedy skills are a plus.
Auditions will be an open call both days, and will consist of cold readings from the script with a few minutes to prepare before reading each scene (sides will be provided at the audition).
Please be familiar with the show. No callback is planned for this production. If possible, plan to arrive on time and remain for the duration of the scheduled audition time until dismissed. Those auditioning are not required to attend both days of auditions, but may do so if desired.
ACCENTS!: The British dialect will be used for all characters in this production. Please come prepared to audition with this dialect.
Rehearsals will begin with a table read Sunday, June 1st at 7:00pm at St. Pius School. Rehearsals will be held at the school until moving into the Barn space on Sunday, June 22nd. The typical weekly rehearsal schedule will be Sunday through Thursday nights from 7 – 10pm. Conflicts with the rehearsal schedule must be kept to an absolute minimum during the rehearsal process. No conflicts will be accepted during dress / tech week (July 13-17).
Actors cast should be willing to arrive at the first rehearsal with a very clear understanding of the dialogue, their roles, and a head start on memorization of lines.
Additional Notes: Cast members are required to assist with strike after the final matinee on Sunday, August 3rd. Cast members may also be asked to assist with some costume pieces.

SYNOPSIS:
Called the funniest farce ever written, this play presents a manic menagerie of characters as a cast of itinerant actors rehearsing a farce called "Nothing On".
Doors slamming, onstage and backstage intrigue, and an errant herring all figure in the plot of this hilarious and classically comic play.
Act One is set at the dress rehearsal the night before opening with the cast still fumbling with entrances and exits, missed cues, misspoken lines, and bothersome props, most notably several plates of sardines.
In Act Two, the play is seen from backstage, providing a view that reveals the deteriorating personal relationships among the cast that have led to offstage shenanigans and onstage bedlam.
In Act Three, we see a performance near the end of the ten-week run when personal friction has continued to increase. The actors attempt to cover up a series of mishaps but only compound the problems and draw attention to the bungling performance.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
5M – 4F (special physical consideration and wardrobe disclosures included):
LLOYD DALLAS – The director of Nothing On, the farce that the characters in Noises Off are attempting to perform. Lloyd is passionate, suave, and extremely harried. He has a hot temper which he barely manages to keep in check (most of the time) as he watches his production go from bad to worse to disaster.
DOTTY OTLEY / MRS. CLACKETT – A (rather) aging prima donna. Her money is funding the production. She has a great deal of trouble remembering her lines, blocking, and props. Capable of using spite or self-pity to get her way. Plays the part of Mrs. Clackett the housekeeper for the Brent's home in England.
GARRY LEJEUNE / ROGER TRAMPLEMAIN – Means well. Believes in the theatre. Tries to keep the show going and everyone's morale up, but often has trouble finishing his sentences. His good nature is replaced with jealously when he believes Dotty has begun carrying on with Frederick. Plays the part of Roger, a real estate agent who is attempting to rent the house, but uses it for a place to have an affair with Vicki. Physical note: Falls down a flight of stairs onstage and must maneuver with shoelaces tied together.
BROOKE ASHTON / VICKI – Young and sexy, but a terrible actress. Incapable of taking direction. Spacey and tuned-out whether onstage or off. Blind as a bat without her contacts, which have a tendency to pop out at bad times. She plays the part of Vicki who works for Inland Revenue and is trying to woo Roger. Wardrobe note: Spends a majority of the show in skimpy lingerie.
POPPY NORTON-TAYLOR - The assistant stage manager of Nothing On. Overworked and often on the verge of tears. Works frantically to keep the show from completely falling apart, a hopeless (and thankless) task.
FREDERICK FELLOWES / PHILIP BRENT / SHEIKH – A neurotic, bumbling actor who is filled with self-doubt. A sweet man. Not the brightest bulb in the box. Always has a thousand questions about his lines and blocking. Violence and blood upset him, causing him to get nosebleeds. He plays the part of Phillip Brent who is currently a tax exile living in Spain with his wife Flavia. He also plays the part of Sheikh who is interested in renting the home and is the spitting image of Phillip. Physical note: Must ascend a staircase with trousers around his ankles.
BELINDA BLAIR / FLAVIA BRENT – An experienced actress who is positive, reliable, and charming. A goodhearted busybody, who knows all the gossip about the company. She attempts to keep the show going as it unravels. She plays the part of Flavia, Philip's dependable wife.
TIM ALLGOOD – The company's long-suffering stage manager who is completely exhausted and sleep-deprived. He is responsible for an inhuman number of tasks and is the understudy for multiple roles in Nothing On.
SELSDON MOWBRAY / BURGLAR - A cheerful, elderly, alcoholic who forgets his lines and misses his entrances. The entire cast attempts to keep him from getting his hands on a bottle. Panic reigns when he cannot be found at all. He plays the part of an elderly burglar breaking into the Brent's home.

Theatre for Young America is presenting No Dogs
Allowed! at the H&R Block City Stage in Union
Station, April 22 through May 17, 2014. This will
be the Kansas City premier of this new musical
based on the award-winning book by Sonia Manzano
who plays Maria on Sesame Street.
Iris, a young Puerto Rican girl, narrates the
story of a hilarious car trip with her large
extended family and her dog, El Exigente.for a day
at a state park. A crisis erupts when a large
sign at the park entrance declares, "NO DOGS
ALLOWED!" What follows is a musical comedy about
family dynamics and creative problem solving
centering on the plight of a beloved dog.
Sonia Manzano wrote the book and adapted it into a
musical play based on her own Puerto Rican family
in the Bronx. Stephen Lawrence composed original
music and Billy Aronson wrote lyrics for songs
celebrating the culture, creativity and love of
this eccentric extended family.
Valerie Mackey returns from a 6-week tour of
Canada and the U.S. in Menopause the Musical to
direct this musical with a cast that includes Mia
Hedgpeth-Guerra, Bradley Thomas, Lena Andrews,

Theatre for Young America is presenting No Dogs
Allowed! at the H&R Block City Stage in Union
Station, April 22 through May 17, 2014. This will
be the Kansas City premier of this new musical
based on the award-winning book by Sonia Manzano
who plays Maria on Sesame Street.
Iris, a young Puerto Rican girl, narrates the
story of a hilarious car trip with her large
extended family and her dog, El Exigente.for a day
at a state park. A crisis erupts when a large
sign at the park entrance declares, "NO DOGS
ALLOWED!" What follows is a musical comedy about
family dynamics and creative problem solving
centering on the plight of a beloved dog.
Sonia Manzano wrote the book and adapted it into a
musical play based on her own Puerto Rican family
in the Bronx. Stephen Lawrence composed original
music and Billy Aronson wrote lyrics for songs
celebrating the culture, creativity and love of
this eccentric extended family.
Valerie Mackey returns from a 6-week tour of
Canada and the U.S. in Menopause the Musical to
direct this musical with a cast that includes Mia
Hedgpeth-Guerra, Bradley Thomas, Lena Andrews,
Nicole Santorella, Wil Andrews-Weiss, Eric
Johansen, Josie and Jami Lenati, and Isaac
Robinson.

Opening weekend for Hansel and Gretel!

"Hansel and Gretel" the Musical,
Directed by Katya WoolardLyrics by Malcolm Brown, Script and Score by David Barrett by special arrangement with Yellowbrick Publications.
Alcott Arts Center opened it's thirteenth year with a hit! The play Hansel and Gretel was exhilarating, funny and so much more than you will ever expect. The energy from both cast and audience enveloped the theater with laughs and giggles. The young actors were full of energy and spunk as they journeyed into the forest in search of food. It's always great to see the excitement grow as the actors become more confident with each performance. Take the time, just one hour, to lighten your heart a little and enjoy a quality production.
It was also a pleasure to be able to bring attention to young Artists. This year we started the exhibitions from KCK area youth Artists displaying their skills, featuring Jordan (Jo) Thaxton, Jenny Sanchez and Melissa Crowe. They are very excited to show off their talents and will be exhibiting throughout the month of April.
Please join us this weekend for the last two shows of Hansel and Gretel Friday and Saturday at 7PM. The galleries open at 6PM.
Hansel and Gretel are left in the forest by their parents, who are too poor to feed them. Lost, they stumble upon an old cottage, unaware that a witch lives there. Hansel is captured by the witch but happily a band of forest elves come to the rescue.
Please join us in support of young talented people everywhere.
This Play is a fundraiser for operating expenses for the Alcott's 2014 calendar year.
The L.M. Alcott Art Center Foundation is a 501(c)(3), 509(a)(2) Not for Profit Public Charity.

SYNOPSIS: A true theatrical event, this
legendary masterpiece is considered by many to be the
greatest musical ever created. In FOLLIES the time is 1971,
and theatrical impresario Dimitri Weissmann hosts a reunion of
ex-Follies performers in his crumbling theatre, setting the
stage for a parade of brilliant pastiche numbers, including
"Losing My Mind," "I'm Still Here," and "Broadway Baby." Amid
the reminiscing, two middle-aged couples confront some
unpleasant truths about their past and present and come face
to face with the future. Surreal, sophisticated, compelling,
heart-wrenching and epic in scope, FOLLIES uses the musical
theatre as a metaphor for the collapse of American innocence
and naiveté in the post-Kennedy years.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Area high school and college students will have the opportunity to earn up to $500.00 to be used toward tuition, boarding or books at the college of his/her choice. Application deadline is April 15, 2014. This is an incredible opportunity for a student to earn necessary college money, by participating in something that he/she enjoys! The internship requires the student to be available to work / study on our summer productions at The Barn Players Theatre.
The intern(s) might be working on one or more of the following productions this summer:
August: Osage County
Noises Off
Disney's Cinderella, Kids (working with children in two different summer sessions)
Closer Than Ever (benefit concert)
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Currently be currently enrolled in a high school or college theatre program, and be from the Metro Kansas City area
• Have a minimum GPA of 2.75
• Provide a letter of recommendation from an instructor or counselor at the school that he/she attends
• Provide a cover letter of introduction by describing his/her interest in the performing arts
• Provide a current theatrical resume listing his/her experience in the performing arts

A Hot Day for a Funeral
Kansas City, Mo. (April 14, 2014) … in more ways than one! Don't miss the next stop on The Mystery Train, "A Funeral for Brother John". Opening on April 18 and running through June 7, performances are on Friday and Saturday evenings in area restaurants. Starring Stephanie Charlton, Nikki Susco-Taylor, and Kat Heiser as the shady characters who keep the gangsters in line—sort of.
Funeral for Brother John-
Things are bound to change in the wake of John Lazia's funeral. Politicians and their wives rub elbows with gangsters and their molls as the crowd provides cover for another murder! It's hard to tell the good girls from the bad guys! Everyone who's anyone is paying respect, but Hoover's gunning for a gangster. Murder mystery dinner theater is presented as a live interactive game, but not all dinner companions are who they seem: one of them may be an accomplice to murder—or even the murderer himself!
The evening begins with seating and role-playing at 6:30 pm. Shows will be at The Golden Ox, in downtown Kansas City, at Californos in Westport, and at Finnigan's in NKC. See our website for a complete schedule. Tickets are $69.00 on Friday and Saturday, and includes dinner, show, and gratuity. A cash bar is available. "Hansel and Gretel" the Musical, Lyrics by Malcolm Brown, Script and Score by David Barrett by special arrangement with Yellowbrick Publications.

A musical play based on the well-known tale but the witch does not die in this version.
Hansel and Gretel are left in the forest by their parents, who are too poor to feed them. Lost, they stumble upon an old cottage, unaware that a witch lives there. Hansel is captured by the witch but happily a band of forest elves come to the rescue.
Alcott's Theatre Program is a mix of great people people from all over the KC metro area. We are very proud to be able to offer first class theatre to all. Please join us in support of young talented people everywhere.
This Play is a fundraiser for operating expenses for the Alcott's 2014 calendar year.

A musical play based on the well-known tale but the witch does not die in this version.
Hansel and Gretel are left in the forest by their parents, who are too poor to feed them. Lost, they stumble upon an old cottage, unaware that a witch lives there. Hansel is captured by the witch but happily a band of forest elves come to the rescue.
Alcott's Theatre Program is a mix of great people people from all over the KC metro area. We are very proud to be able to offer first class theatre to all. Please join us in support of young talented people everywhere.

Area high school and college students will have the opportunity to earn up to $500.00 to be used toward tuition, boarding or books at the college of his/her choice. Application deadline is April 15, 2014. This is an incredible opportunity for a student to earn necessary college money, by participating in something that he/she enjoys! The internship requires the student to be available to work / study on our summer productions at The Barn Players Theatre.
The intern(s) might be working on one or more of the following productions this summer:

Disney's Cinderella, Kids (working with children in two different summer sessions)
Closer Than Ever (benefit concert)

EXPECTATION and PREPARATION:
Please provide: Headshot and resume
Strong comedic timing and physical comedy skills are a plus.
Auditions will be an open call both days, and will consist of cold readings from the script with a few minutes to prepare before reading each scene (sides will be provided at the audition).
Please be familiar with the show. No callback is planned for this production. If possible, plan to arrive on time and remain for the duration of the scheduled audition time until dismissed. Those auditioning are not required to attend both days of auditions, but may do so if desired.
ACCENTS!: The British dialect will be used for all characters in this production. Please come prepared to audition with this dialect.
Rehearsals will begin with a table read Sunday, June 1st at 7:00pm at St. Pius School. Rehearsals will be held at the school until moving into the Barn space on Sunday, June 22nd. The typical weekly rehearsal schedule will be Sunday through Thursday nights from 7 – 10pm. Conflicts with the rehearsal schedule must be kept to an absolute minimum during the rehearsal process. No conflicts will be accepted during dress / tech week (July 13-17).
Actors cast should be willing to arrive at the first rehearsal with a very clear understanding of the dialogue, their roles, and a head start on memorization of lines.
Additional Notes: Cast members are required to assist with strike after the final matinee on Sunday, August 3rd. Cast members may also be asked to assist with some costume pieces.
Casting will tentatively be announced by Monday, May 5th

SYNOPSIS:
Called the funniest farce ever written, this play presents a manic menagerie of characters as a cast of itinerant actors rehearsing a farce called "Nothing On".
Doors slamming, onstage and backstage intrigue, and an errant herring all figure in the plot of this hilarious and classically comic play.
Act One is set at the dress rehearsal the night before opening with the cast still fumbling with entrances and exits, missed cues, misspoken lines, and bothersome props, most notably several plates of sardines.
In Act Two, the play is seen from backstage, providing a view that reveals the deteriorating personal relationships among the cast that have led to offstage shenanigans and onstage bedlam.
In Act Three, we see a performance near the end of the ten-week run when personal friction has continued to increase. The actors attempt to cover up a series of mishaps but only compound the problems and draw attention to the bungling performance.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
5M – 4F (special physical consideration and wardrobe disclosures included):
LLOYD DALLAS – The director of Nothing On, the farce that the characters in Noises Off are attempting to perform. Lloyd is passionate, suave, and extremely harried. He has a hot temper which he barely manages to keep in check (most of the time) as he watches his production go from bad to worse to disaster.
DOTTY OTLEY / MRS. CLACKETT – A (rather) aging prima donna. Her money is funding the production. She has a great deal of trouble remembering her lines, blocking, and props. Capable of using spite or self-pity to get her way. Plays the part of Mrs. Clackett the housekeeper for the Brent's home in England.
GARRY LEJEUNE / ROGER TRAMPLEMAIN – Means well. Believes in the theatre. Tries to keep the show going and everyone's morale up, but often has trouble finishing his sentences. His good nature is replaced with jealously when he believes Dotty has begun carrying on with Frederick. Plays the part of Roger, a real estate agent who is attempting to rent the house, but uses it for a place to have an affair with Vicki. Physical note: Falls down a flight of stairs onstage and must maneuver with shoelaces tied together.
BROOKE ASHTON / VICKI – Young and sexy, but a terrible actress. Incapable of taking direction. Spacey and tuned-out whether onstage or off. Blind as a bat without her contacts, which have a tendency to pop out at bad times. She plays the part of Vicki who works for Inland Revenue and is trying to woo Roger. Wardrobe note: Spends a majority of the show in skimpy lingerie.
POPPY NORTON-TAYLOR - The assistant stage manager of Nothing On. Overworked and often on the verge of tears. Works frantically to keep the show from completely falling apart, a hopeless (and thankless) task.
FREDERICK FELLOWES / PHILIP BRENT / SHEIKH – A neurotic, bumbling actor who is filled with self-doubt. A sweet man. Not the brightest bulb in the box. Always has a thousand questions about his lines and blocking. Violence and blood upset him, causing him to get nosebleeds. He plays the part of Phillip Brent who is currently a tax exile living in Spain with his wife Flavia. He also plays the part of Sheikh who is interested in renting the home and is the spitting image of Phillip. Physical note: Must ascend a staircase with trousers around his ankles.
BELINDA BLAIR / FLAVIA BRENT – An experienced actress who is positive, reliable, and charming. A goodhearted busybody, who knows all the gossip about the company. She attempts to keep the show going as it unravels. She plays the part of Flavia, Philip's dependable wife.
TIM ALLGOOD – The company's long-suffering stage manager who is completely exhausted and sleep-deprived. He is responsible for an inhuman number of tasks and is the understudy for multiple roles in Nothing On.
SELSDON MOWBRAY / BURGLAR - A cheerful, elderly, alcoholic who forgets his lines and misses his entrances. The entire cast attempts to keep him from getting his hands on a bottle. Panic reigns when he cannot be found at all. He plays the part of an elderly burglar breaking into the Brent's home.

Reservation Line is Open for Beau Jest
The River City Community Players announce their reservation line is open for James Sherman's Beau Jest.
Call (913) 651-0027 to reserve your seats for a look into how Sarah explains her situation to her parents and resulting events.
Sarah is a nice Jewish girl with a problem: her parents want her married to a nice Jewish boy.
They have never met her boyfriend, a WASP executive named Chris Kringle.
She tells them she is dating a Jewish doctor and they insist on meeting him. She plans a dinner party and, over the heated protests of Chris, employs an escort service to send her a Jewish date to be Dr. Steinberg.
Instead, they send Bob Schroeder, an aspiring actor who agrees to perform the impersonation.
Happily, he is extremely convincing in the role and Sarah's parents are enraptured. Soon, even Sarah falls for Bob.

Coterie & Unicorn Theatres Hold Combined Adult Auditions for 2014-2015 Seasons
The Coterie & Unicorn Theatres will hold combined auditions for professional adult actors (18 years of age & older) - Equity & non-Equity - for their respective 2014-2015 seasons on May 5, 6, 7, and 8, 2014. Auditions will be held by appointment only at Unicorn Theatre, 3828 Main St., Kansas City, MO, on May 5 from 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., and May 6, 7, and 8 from 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Appointments can be made by calling Annette Filippi at 816-474-4241.
Actors will be asked to perform two contrasting contemporary monologues (no classical material, no Shakespeare), two minutes each; no musical material. Singing auditions will occur only if called back. Actors must bring two head shots and two resumes. There will be no alternate or individual audition times outside of the May 5-8 dates listed above.

A hilarious family comedy that is even funnier than his long-running musical revue I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change. —BackStage. "Loaded with laughs every step of the way." —Star-Ledger.
THE STORY: "Nick is a single, Italian-American guy from New Jersey. His parents retired and moved to Florida. That doesn't mean his family isn't still in Jersey. In fact, he sees both sets of his grandparents every Sunday for dinner. This is routine until he has to tell them that he's been offered a dream job. The job he's been waiting for—marketing executive—would take him away from his beloved, but annoying, grandparents. He tells them. The news doesn't sit so well. Thus begins a series of schemes to keep Nick around. How could he betray his family's love to move to Seattle, for a job, wonder his grandparents? Well, Frank, Aida, Nunzio and Emma do their level best, and that includes bringing to dinner the lovely—and single—Caitlin O'Hare as bait…we won't give the ending away here." - DPS
