Job opening: Full-time Designer/Technical Director at KCKCC

Kansas City Kansas Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Technical Theatre and Design. Teaching responsibilities may include but are not limited to Stagecraft, Scene Painting, Stage Lighting, Stage Management, Technical Practicum, etc. Additional responsibilities will include collaboration on main stage productions; oversight of set and prop construction, supervision of student designers and technicians, and coordination of assignments for all productions. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

The college is particularly interested in innovative instructors who value student growth and success as top priorities. Applicants should demonstrate an interest in active learning approaches, effective assessment techniques, and utilization of technology in the classroom. The successful candidate will be expected to commit fully to departmental and institutional service as well as participate in ongoing professional development.

A minimum load of 30 FTEs annually is expected, with an average of 15 per semester. Experience teaching traditional and nontraditional students with a wide variety of learning styles in an urban community college setting serving a diverse population is required. Participation in integrated, interdisciplinary teaching and learning initiatives is encouraged.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
1. A master's degree in technical theatre with an emphasis in design or direction is required; preference may be given to candidates with an MFA in these areas.
2. Candidates must provide evidence of experience in all industry standard forms of scenic construction, drafting for the stage, scenic painting techniques and welding, lighting techniques for the theatre, and rigging.
3. Preference may be given to additional skills in any/all of the following: Scene Design, Lighting Design, Costume Design, and Production Design.
4. Previous teaching experience and production experience in a multi-faceted venue is highly desired.

STARTS: Position available fall semester 2013

SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience per the Master Contract.
